Spiruline - Burkina Faso

The Spiruline project is conceived by ICEAL in order to meet the problem of malnutrition of the poorest people in Burkina Faso.

Spiruline is seen as an efficient remedy to malnutrition as a target for ICEAL to reach . The Spiruline is like a « super food ». It has great nourishing properties with its composition from 60 to 70% of proteins (concentration higher than soya or rice) and a presence of whole range amino acids and iron (3mg from 8mg by 5g). Besides its nutritional values, the Spiruline is a seaweed easy to cultivate and giving high yield. ICEAL decided with the help of a local NGO, to create a local farm producing Spiruline.
 

Logic framework of Spiruline project

Target  : Fight against malnutrition
Special target : Reduce deceases linked to the malnutrition, and encourage local development with Spiruline business.
Results assessments  : The success of this project will depend of
1. How many kilos of Spiruline will be sold in Burkina
2. How profitable will be the Spiruline culture.
